2012 BENEFIT - CREATIVE CONFECTIONS DESSERT COMPETITION

Held at the architecturally exquisite Bohemian National Hall in Slavic Village on October 13th, the Art
Therapy Studio’s 18th biennial event celebrated Cleveland’s rich cultural history. Fourteen competitors
representing Northeast Ohio’s most notable culinary talent competed in the evening’s Creative
Confections Dessert Competition.
A panel of 15 culinary experts judged 22 culinary delights on taste and artistic presentation. Desserts
represented many countries, including Hungary, China, Italy, Korea, France, Germany, Ireland, Greece,
and Syria. Taking “Best of Show” was Diana Dimitru’s Hungarian Rhapsody!
Former White House Executive Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier graciously presented the awards, signed
copies of his books, and greeted guests and competitors throughout the evening.
We extend our most sincere thank you to the people who made Celebrating Cleveland’s Cultures such a success. Very
special thanks to Honorary Chair Roland Mesnier, and Co-Chairs Chris Treu and Marilea Campomizzi. Special thanks to
Emcee Kurt Treu, Competition Consultant Tina Körting, the judges, competitors and supporters. Thanks also to our dedicated

MARK YOUR CALENDAR and plan to join us at the CREATIVE CONFECTIONS BENEFIT AND
DESSERT COMPETITION! This competition between northeast Ohio's finest pastry chefs
benefits the Art Therapy Studio in Cleveland and is an event not to be missed! This year marks
the 19th occasion the Art Therapy Studio has hosted this first-class competition. Pastry chefs
will allow their creativity to run wild as they incorporate THE ARTFUL CUPCAKE theme into their
cupcake creations! A panel of culinary judges will award prizes for:
- Best of Show
- Most Artistic
- Most Decadently Delicious
Celebrated chef and restaurateur Doug Katz will serve as honorary chair (Fire, Food & Drink,
Katz Club Diner, Provenance, Cleveland Museum of Art), He will serve as culinary judge,
mingle with guests, and take part in the award program.
The cupcakes' rise in popularity has recently skyrocketed! This trendy, fun, sweet confection
opens up a world of creative and delicious possibilities.
Chefs will use the cupcake as a base and apply their artistic touch inspired by great art and
artists of yesteryear and today. Cultural venues such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and PlayHouse Square might be their muse! Monet,
Picasso, and Van Gogh might provide inspiration to create an impressionist design.
Immediately following the judging portion of the evening, guests are invited to unlimited
samplings of mini-cupcake versions of the entries created by the chefs in the competition!

- $70 per person ~ October 25-November 7
- Hors d'oeuvers will be served, and free, secure parking is included. Cash bar available.
Following the judging, guests can taste-test the entries while enjoying a full evening of
activities including the #happyincle raffle! Prize includes a spectacular Cleveland dining and
entertainment package! Raffle tickets are $5 each or 6 for $25.
