Special Needs Children & Adolescents When a child suffers illness, multiple losses, abuse, the failure of consistent relationships, and the inability to verbalize feelings, art therapy often produces dramatic results. The use of arts in therapy is successful because of its activity-based link to “play.” Art is a non- threatening, non-judgmental activity, through which art therapists can address problems indirectly while focusing on other normalizing experiences. Art therapy emphasizes personal expressiveness and promotes self-confidence and self-esteem.
Working with organizations such as the Positive Education Program (PEP), United Cerebral Palsy, Achievement Center for Children, Shaker Hts. Schools, Cuyahoga Co. MRDD, Gross Schechter, The Covenant, Children & Family Services and the Cleveland Clinic Oncology Unit, the Art Therapy Studio has provided comprehensive art therapy services to children with physical, emotional and cognitive impairments throughout its long history.
